About the Role

The Ventilator Accommodation Support Service (VASS) is the only one of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere offering permanent and respite accommodation to people who are dependent on mechanical ventilation or have high respiratory supports within a social model of care. The residents of our services enjoy an active, fun and engaging lifestyle that is supported by likeminded individuals.

VASS and The Northern Hospital have partnered to provide a unique opportunity for Registered Nurses to gain valuable experience and skill development across the respiratory continuum from acute to the community setting. Successful applicants will have the support of a dedicated Nurse Educator and be required to commit to a minimum of 0.4 FTE across a 24 hour fixed roster.

The Registered Nurse at VASS is professionally responsible for providing clinical leadership and specialist direct nursing care in a way that reflects the customer’s individual needs and is delivered in a respectful and dignified manner. The Registered Nurse works collaboratively with residents and a team of Disability Support Workers trained in delivery of community based ventilation and respiratory supports.

About You:

• To be successful in this role, you will need:

   

  • Enrolled in the Northern Hospital STEP Program.
  • Bachelor of Nursing or recognized equivalent
  • Minimum 12 months RN experience
  • Strong leadership and clinical assessment skills
  • Current Division 1 Nursing Registration Certificate
  • Current ALS or BLS Certification
  • Extensive post-basic clinical nursing experience
  • Experience with delivery of respiratory or ventilator support is strongly preferred
  • Current National Police Record Check
  • International Police Check (if required)
  • Disability Worker Exclusion Scheme (DWES) check
