About the role

Allied Health is a division of Yooralla that provides therapy, positive behavior support, and psychology services to people with disabilities. As a Physiotherapist within this division, you will be a part of an established team of experienced paediatric team and will deliver best practice, evidence-informed physiotherapy services to empower children (Birth to 9 years old)  with disabilities to achieve their goals and live fulfilling lives. Your role will involve working within a human rights practice framework, adopting person-centered and family-centered/ key worker approaches, and collaborating within interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary models of support.

Based in Sunshine or Newport office, this is a 12 month Parental Leave cover, fixed term role and the incumbent is expected to join late June 2024.  

Your working days will involve:

  • providing support, resources and information as part of the key worker model, to meet the family’s individual needs in a range of settings such as home, childcare, kindergarten or school.
  • using a family centred approach and drawing on the skills of the larger team to develop goals and strategies with the family to support their identified priorities.
  • working part of an interdisciplinary team of Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Psychologists
  • providing indirect client service/family coordination to support client goals
  • working with clients and families with complex needs
  • managing your own caseload and appointments
  • driving to homes and community settings within a 30 minute radius
  • flexible working schedule and environment e.g. home, office, community

Key Role Responsibilities

  • Manage a paediatric clinical caseload within scope of practice.
  • Support divisional objectives and priorities through training delivery and participation in key projects.

Clinical Knowledge Areas:

  • Assessment of body structure, function, posture, movement, and fitness.
  • Development and implementation of age-appropriate interventions to enhance mobility and functional skills.
  • Creation of land-based and aquatic physiotherapy exercise programs.
  • Assessment and prescription of assistive technology for positioning and mobility.
  • Management of falls prevention.
  • Facilitation of access to education, employment, and community activities to promote social participation and well-being.

  • Understanding and addressing the complex support needs of individuals with disabilities.
  • Promoting independence, informed choice, and goal achievement.
  • Flexibly tailoring interventions to individuals and their support systems.
  • Effective communication and collaboration with diverse stakeholders.
  • Operating within the scope of practice, implementing evidence-informed care, and participating in inter-professional learning.

Service Systems: 

Ability to navigate funding systems, including the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS), demonstrate excellent time management skills, and promote quality, safety, and inclusion within service delivery.

Mandatory Requirements:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a Physiotherapist within Community or Clinical settings.
  • International Police Check (if required).
  • Working with Children Check.
  • NDIS Worker Screening Check.
  • Current Australian driver's license (travel is an expectation of the position).
  • AHPRA Registration (Physiotherapist).
  • Tertiary qualification in relevant discipline (mandatory).
  • Postgraduate qualification in relevant discipline (desirable).
